Description

Deliciously savory pork meatballs served over creamy sweet potato mash with a rich bourbon-maple sauce, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium onion, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup chicken stock

Instructions

  1. Combine ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated onion, minced garlic, smoked paprika, dried sage, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Shape the mixture into golf-ball-sized meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the meatballs for about 6 minutes.
  4. Transfer meatballs to a plate and set aside.
  5. Boil peeled and cubed sweet potatoes in salted water until tender, about 12-15 minutes.
  6. Drain sweet potatoes and return to the pot. Add butter, heavy cream, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then mash until smooth.
  7. Deglaze the skillet with bourbon, scrape up browned bits, then add maple syrup, Dijon mustard, and chicken stock. Allow to simmer.
  8. Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 8-10 minutes until cooked through.
  9. Whisk in cold butter into the sauce until glossy, then season to taste.

Notes

Feel free to add herbs or swap proteins to customize your meatballs. This dish pairs well with seasonal vegetables.
