Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl and let it froth for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt, and make a well in the center.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs into the well and stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the dough, divide it into equal portions, and shape into balls.
  7. Place the balls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Brush with melted butter before serving.

Notes

For a variation, try adding savory herbs or cinnamon for a twist on the classic rolls.
