Description
A savory and vibrant dish of beef strips and caramelized onions, perfect for cozy weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
- 6 tbsp (90g) vegetable oil, divided
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp (15g) grated fresh ginger
- 3 tbsp (45g) soy sauce, divided
- 3 tbsp (45g) oyster sauce (optional), divided
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp (30g) hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp (30g) rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp (15g) cornstarch
- 1 large onion, sliced
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil to make a marinade. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let them marinate for 10-15 minutes.
- Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and remove from the pan.
- Increase the heat to high, add 2 tbsp vegetable oil, and sear the marinated beef strips for 2-3 minutes until browned.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp oyster sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour this sauce over the beef and stir to thicken.
- Return the caramelized onions to the skillet, mixing well with the beef and sauce. Serve immediately over rice or noodles.
Notes
For a twist, consider adding seasonal vegetables or swapping beef for chicken, shrimp, or tofu.
