Description

A delightful grilled cheese sandwich that combines the sweetness of pear and apple with savory caramelized onions and sharp cheddar cheese.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium pear, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Black pepper (to taste)


Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat, add the onions and a pinch of salt, and cook for 10 minutes. Add balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2-3 minutes, then set aside.
  2. Prepare the skillet: In the same skillet, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
  3. Layer the ingredients: On two slices of bread, sprinkle half of the cheese, then add caramelized onions, apple slices, pear slices, and finish with the remaining cheese. Top with the other slices of bread.
  4. Grill the sandwich: Place the sandwich in the skillet, grilling for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  5. Serve and savor: Slice the sandwich in half and serve warm on lovely plates.
