A delightful grilled cheese sandwich that combines the sweetness of pear and apple with savory caramelized onions and sharp cheddar cheese.

- 4 slices of sourdough bread
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 medium pear, thinly sliced
- 1 medium apple, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat, add the onions and a pinch of salt, and cook for 10 minutes. Add balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2-3 minutes, then set aside.
- Prepare the skillet: In the same skillet, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
- Layer the ingredients: On two slices of bread, sprinkle half of the cheese, then add caramelized onions, apple slices, pear slices, and finish with the remaining cheese. Top with the other slices of bread.
- Grill the sandwich: Place the sandwich in the skillet, grilling for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
- Serve and savor: Slice the sandwich in half and serve warm on lovely plates.
