- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 cup marinara sauce (low carb)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup sliced pepperoni (or turkey pepperoni)
- 1 bell pepper, diced (red or green)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the meat in a skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Drain excess grease.
- Add diced onion and bell pepper, cooking for an additional 4-5 minutes until softened.
- Pour in the marinara sauce and add garlic powder, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes. Stir until mixed.
- Assemble the casserole in a baking dish by layering half of the meat mixture, cheese, the remaining meat mixture, pepperoni, and then another layer of cheese.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until cheese is melted and golden brown.
