  • Optional: 1/2 cup of chopped nuts (such as pecans or walnuts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and celery, sautéing until softened.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the crusty bread cubes with the sautéed vegetables.
  5. Add fresh herbs (thyme, sage, rosemary) to the mixture.
  6. Gradually pour in the rich broth, ensuring the bread absorbs it but isn’t drowning.
  7. Add sausage or nuts if using, and mix everything together gently.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and cover with foil.
  10. Bake for about 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
