Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of crusty bread (like sourdough or French), cubed
- 1 cup of chopped onion
- 1 cup of chopped celery
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
- 2 cups of rich chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tablespoon of fresh sage, chopped
- 1 tablespoon of fresh rosemary, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 cup of cooked sausage, crumbled
- Optional: 1/2 cup of chopped nuts (such as pecans or walnuts)

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and celery, sautéing until softened.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the crusty bread cubes with the sautéed vegetables.
- Add fresh herbs (thyme, sage, rosemary) to the mixture.
- Gradually pour in the rich broth, ensuring the bread absorbs it but isn’t drowning.
- Add sausage or nuts if using, and mix everything together gently.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and cover with foil.
- Bake for about 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
