Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cranberry jam


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ground ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, shape into balls and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Make an indentation in each ball with your thumb.
  8. Fill each thumbprint with cranberry jam.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden-edged.
  10. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
