Ingredients

  • 400 grams (14 oz) firm tofu
  • 4 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)


Instructions

  1. Drain the tofu and press to remove excess moisture for about 15-20 minutes. Cut the tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a small bowl, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil to create the sauce.
  3. Coat each tofu cube evenly in cornstarch.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry tofu cubes in batches for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove tofu and let it rest on a paper towel-lined plate. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet, simmer for a minute.
  6. Add the fried tofu to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
  7. Transfer the tofu to a serving dish and sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
