Description

A delightful twist on the traditional Sicilian dessert, these squares combine a soft golden pastry with a luscious ricotta filling, perfect for any festive occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (thawed)
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese (well-drained)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Optional: confectioner’s sugar and chopped pistachios for garnish


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets to about ¼ inch thickness and cut into 3×3 inch squares.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Stir in mini chocolate chips, orange zest, and cinnamon.
  4. Place one tablespoon of the filling on the center of each pastry square, fold to form triangles, and seal the edges with a fork.
  5. Arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush with beaten egg wash.
  6. Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool slightly, then dust with confectioner’s sugar and sprinkle with pistachios if desired.
