Description

A comforting and classic green bean casserole featuring creamy mushroom soup and crispy fried onions.


Ingredients

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 4 cups cut green beans (2 cans (14.5 oz each), drained, or 1.5 lbs fresh blanched)
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions (divided: 2/3 cup for mixing, 2/3 cup for topping)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper (to taste)
  • Cooking spray (for dish)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and spray a 9×9 inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
  2. If using fresh green beans, blanch them in boiling water for 2 minutes, then drain. If using canned, drain well.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and whole milk until smooth, then stir in the soy sauce.
  4. Gently mix in the green beans and 2/3 cup of French fried onions, seasoning with black pepper.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes, then stir gently and top with the remaining 2/3 cup of fried onions.
  7. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the onions are golden brown.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!
